KMG's Head Holds Production Meetings at Ozenmunaigas and Mangistaumunaigas Fields
23.07.2026
During a working visit to the Mangistau region, a meeting was held at Озенмунайгаз JSC (OMG) under the chairmanship of KazMunayGas's Head Askhat Khassenov on the implementation of the long-term development strategy.
Measures to increase the resource base, improve the oil recovery factor, and ensure sustainable production of up to 5.9 MMt of oil by 2030 were reviewed.
Particular attention is paid to the implementation of the brownfield rehabilitation program, improvement of the waterflood management system in 157 development zones, and the creation of an integrated hydrodynamic model of the Uzen and Karamandybas fields.
One of the key priorities is the replenishment of the resource base, including through the drilling of two appraisal wells (more than 3000 m). The expected resource increment will amount to more than 500,000 tonnes of oil.
The strategy implementation includes the introduction of state-of-art technologies to enhance oil recovery. The development of scientific and technical support for field development is ongoing, and the scope of research activities is being expanded to include geochemical analysis of produced water and measures to enhance the efficiency of reservoir development.
In the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence declared by the Head of State, OMG has embarked on the digital transformation of its production activities. AI agents are being implemented to support engineering solutions based on the ABAI intelligent system, aimed at enhancing the efficiency of well interventions and improving field development.
At the recent meeting held at Mangistaumunaigas JSC (MMG), issues related to the implementation of the long-term strategy for the development of MMG's fields were also discussed.
Measures to expand the resource base were discussed, including the development of satellite fields with total in-place reserves exceeding 20 MMt. The Exploration Work Development Concept and the Roadmap until 2032 have been developed, providing for 3D seismic acquisition at six satellite fields, drilling appraisal wells, building modern geological models, and expanding the mining allotments for the Kalamkas, Zhetybai, and South Zhetybai fields. Prospecting and exploration works will also be carried out in the deep Triassic–Palaeozoic horizons, and new prospective areas of the South Mangyshlak and Ustyurt‑Buzachi petroleum basins will be studied.
Particular attention was given to improving the waterflood management system as one of the key tools for enhancing the oil recovery factor. The ABAI information system, incorporating artificial intelligence, is used to assess the prospects for drilling new wells, select well interventions, and enhance the field operational efficiency.
KMG's head instructed OMG and MMG's management to ensure the implementation of strategic initiatives to expand the resource base and digitally transform production processes. Furthermore, specific tasks were assigned to the companies to further improve the social and living conditions of the employees.
