The Kalamkas-Sea field is located in the central part of the North-Eastern part of the Caspian Sea. The sea depth in this area is 7-8 meters.

The Khazar field is 30 km south-west of the Kalamkas-Sea and 65 km north-west of the Bozashy peninsula. The depth of the sea in this area is about 6-8 meters.

The Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar fields are the only fields in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea with confirmed reserves on the Republic of Kazakhstan balance.
In 2023 it is planned to conclude a subsoil use contract between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and National Company KazMunayGas with subsequent entry of LUKOIL into the Kalamkas-Sea-Khazar project as a Strategic Partner.  

Work is underway to select the PreFeed concept.
