Zhanaozen Gas Power Plant Delivers First Industrial Electricity

KazMunayGas NC JSC and the Italian energy company Eni SpA received the first industrial electricity from a 120 MW gas power plant in Zhanaozen.

This is another important milestone in the implementation of the joint project to build a hybrid power plant with a total capacity of 247 MW in Kazakhstan. 

The project is being implemented within KMG's Low-Carbon Development Program and envisages the integration of solar (50 MW), gas (120 MW) and wind (77 MW) generation into a single energy complex.

As is known, in September 2025, KMG and Eni launched a solar power plant, which, over the period of its operation, has generated approximately 62 million kWh of electricity, thereby confirming the effectiveness of solar generation in the region.

Six Wartsila gas piston units have been installed at the gas power plant, a 110 kV substation has been built, and pre-commissioning works are ongoing. More than 1,000 people are engaged in the construction of the gas power plant. The final stage of commissioning is scheduled for Q3 2026.

Construction works are underway at the wind power plant.

Overall, the new facility will enable the establishment of a stable energy supply to KMG's subsidiaries in the region.

Once the Hybrid Power Plant is commissioned, up to 70 new jobs will be created.
