KazMunayGas and Lummus Technology to Establish a Digital Center of Excellence in Atyrau

22.09.2025

KazMunayGas (KMG) and US-based Lummus Technology have signed a Heads of Agreement to establish a Digital Center of Excellence in the city of Atyrau. The document was signed in New York during a meeting between KMG Chairman Askhat Khassenov and Lummus Technology President and CEO Leon de Bruyn.

The new Center is designed to ensure technology transfer to Kazakhstan and to promote the development of personnel training for working at state-of-the-art petrochemical facilities. It will train specialists in modern process technologies and enhance their qualifications. Special attention will also be given to industrial safety issues.

The Center will be operated by KMG's subsidiary, KMG Engineering LLP.

The signing of the Agreement marks a new stage in cooperation between the two companies. Lummus Technology is already a licensor of key technologies for several major projects of KMG. These include the Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. (KPI) plant, which employs Propane Dehydrogenation and Propylene Polymerization technologies, and the Polyethylene project (operated by Silleno LLP), for which Lummus is the licensor of the Ethane Cracker.

The parties expressed confidence that the establishment of the Center of Excellence will contribute not only to the efficient operation of production facilities, but also to the development of a personnel reserve for future petrochemical projects.
