The best innovative ideas and practices in the field of health, safety and environment

At the end of the last year JSC NC “KazMunayGas” jointly with “Oil and gas sector workers union” PA summarized the results of the contest “The best innovative ideas and practices in the field of health, safety and environment of JSC NC “KazMunayGas” group of companies.

The presented works were selected by a three level commission including the workers of subsidiaries and affiliates and KMG. Moreover, it was mandatory for the commission to consist of the representatives and trade unions.

Over 30 KMG’s subsidiaries and affiliates participated in the competition. The main criteria of works selection was the possibility of adopting ideas in the KMG group of companies, and the use of the advanced practices in the field of health, safety and environment.

The first place, a Diploma and motivating money reward, was assigned to Suleymen Turezhanov, leading expert of the Storage Facilities and Transport Logistics Department of “KazakhOilAktobe” LLP. Adoption of his idea, namely, air aspiration systems in storage premises, will allow to significantly reduce the production impact on the health of workers.

The second place was assigned to Batyrkhan Aitbayev, leading engineer of the Industrial Process Monitoring and Control Department of “KazMunayGas” Exploration Production” JSC. The idea is to use specialized software (application) to centralize all the types of violations, from major to minor, allowing registering and sending photos with comments, audio records to the specialized data bank for data collection, the corresponding services to response and undertake measures. The Commission marked the project as rather simple and claiming leadership in occupational safety. The idea can be easily applied in all KMG’s units and does not require considerable investment for adoption and use. The project supposes involvement of the frontline worker into the improvement of working conditions and represents a direct communication line. Moreover it can serve as a tool for increasing reporting transparency.

The third place was shared between Amanali Yemberdiyev, Director of Health, Safety and Environment Department, and Zharkimbekov Sultangazy Usipbekovich, Head of Nature Conservation of “PetroKazahstanOilProducts” LLP. Using the idea of biological reclamation of contaminated soil and decontamination of pyrophoric iron sulfides will significantly reduce oil products content and restore vegetation at biorecultivated areas. It was noted that the proposed technology is relevant for the western regions of Kazakhstan in terms of minimum water consumption.

Alikhan Baidussenov, Managing Director of Prospective business development of “KazMunayGas” Exploration Production” JSC was encouraged in the form of letter of appreciation for the most creative idea. The idea of using a mirror to demonstrate the safety rules was easy and creative for the use in all KMG’s units.

The contest “The best innovative ideas and practices in the field of health, safety and environment of JSC NC “KazMunayGas” is conducted annually. The initiative is also aimed at increasing motivation and material interest of the companies (subsidiaries and affiliates) in ensuring safe work, preventing workplace injuries, reducing the negative impact on the environment to enhance the efficiency of production processes and sustainable development in the KMG group of companies.
