KazMunayGas to implement the requirements of the new Environmental Code

23.07.2021

This year, KazMunayGas Group has planned a number of environmental safety actions and a comprehensive environmental impact assessment of its subsidiaries. One of the company's digitalization initiatives is a project to develop and implement the KMG automated environmental monitoring information system (AEMIS). The system is designed for full automation of environmental protection activities, in particular, collection, storage, processing, and analysis of environment status information. It will be accessible by the concerned employees of KMG Group.

The new Environmental Code implementation also includes launching a Single Environmental Portal in Kazakhstan to unite the entire national environmental data bank. The portal is one of the innovations of the RoK Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources in regulating environmental protection.

“The Single Environmental Portal is an important platform for sustainable development of the country's operators. We see a huge opportunity in using the services of this portal for digitalizing the environmental protection processes and for sustainable development. It will automate business processes, such as waste and emission reporting, and facility environmental grading. Moreover, we consider integrating our AEMIS with the Single Environmental Portal in the future,” says Kairat Saktaganov, Director of KMG’s HSE Department.

The portal will significantly reduce the time to collect, process and prepare information for decision-making, streamline the information flow, directly or indirectly related to environmental protection, consolidate the reporting across all geographically dispersed subsidiaries, and will help optimise the environmental management costs.

It should be noted that the new Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan became effective on 1 July 2021.

In addition, 2021 has been declared the Year of Ecology in KMG Group in order to raise the environmental protection profile, reduce the environmental impact, and take measures to meet the new environmental requirements and follow the global trends.
