The Karachaganak field is one of the world's largest oil and gas condensate fields, located in northwest Kazakhstan, near the city of Aksai and covering an area of more than 280 square kilometers. The field was discovered in 1979, first production was in November 1984 based on a limited pilot commercial method developed in the USSR.
Currently, the goal of a number of Karachaganak projects is to maintain the liquid hydrocarbons production rate at 10-11 MMtpa by expanding the existing gas treatment and reservoir reinjection systems and drilling new production and injection wells.
Karachaganak Gas Debottlenecking Project (KGDBN)
- The project cost is US$898 million, additional production is 9.1 MMt.
- The project was commissioned in April 2021.
- It was handed over to operation in December 2021.
