The project for the construction of a seawater desalination plant in Kendirli is being implemented in pursuance of the order of the Head of State dated September 1, 2021. (p. 67 of the Nationwide plan on the implementation of the Address of the Head of State to the people of Kazakhstan «The unity of the people and systemic reforms are a solid foundation for the nation’s prosperity») to cover the existing water shortage in Zhanaozen and address social issues in the Mangystau region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The implementation of the project also helps to reduce the financial and technical burden on the Astrakhan-Mangyshlak main water pipeline. Desalination technology: reverse osmosis. The production capacity of the desalination plant is 50 thousand m3/day. According to the feasibility study of the project, the entire volume of water produced by the plant will be fully directed to the needs of the population, enterprises, and organizations of Zhanaozen. The feasibility study of the project was developed by the branch of KMG Engineering LLP «KazNIPI». Then RSE «Gosexpertiza» issued a positive conclusion on the study on April 8, 2021.

In the first quarter of 2023, based on the updated data of the Feasibility study of the Project, work is underway to determine the sources of funding and to announce a tender for the selection of an EPC contractor for the construction of the plant. In the second quarter of 2023, an EPC contract is expected to be awarded and the construction of the plant is expected to begin. Construction works on the project are planned to be completed on time – by the end of December 2024.
