In the Kazakhstani sector of the Caspian Sea, KMG is carrying out exploration work at the Abay, Isatai, Zhenis, and Al-Farabi sites. To share risks with KMG, following subsoil use contracts and cooperation agreements, these works are carried out by enterprises created jointly with partners (ENI, Lukoil, etc.).

Example

In 2022, preparatory works were carried out jointly with LUKOIL PJSC and the exploration well drilling in Zhenis site began in December. The Zhenis Block is located in the Kazakhstani Sector of the Caspian Sea at a depth of 75-100 m. The distance from the block to the port of Aktau is 180 km, the license area is 6,848 sq. km. In accordance with the signed contract, the drilling of one exploration well and conducting 3D seismic surveying are the main minimum obligations. The operator of this project is Zhenis Operating Joint Venture in which each company owns 50%. The projects in the Caspian Sea is an important step in expanding the resource base in the region which has a strategic importance for the Company and where it has accumulated considerable expertise. In 2023 it is planned to complete the drilling of an exploration well in the Zhenis site, carry out preparatory works for drilling at the Abai site, and conduct seismic exploration at the Al-Farabi site.
