Renewable energy sources

As part of the implementation of the Low-Carbon Development Program, JSC NC «KazMunayGas» plans to implement renewable energy projects with an installed capacity of facilities of at least 300 MW (in total by 2031).

The use of RES is possible in 4 scenarios:

• RES projects of MW class;

At the moment, we are working on the following areas for the implementation of projects on renewable energy sources:

Ownership of renewable energy assets through:

• acquisition of a stake in existing RES assets (projects of wind and solar power plants),

• construction of new RES power plants.

This approach will allow us to start developing competencies in the field of renewable energy, following the example of other global oil and gas companies, as well as increase the energy independence of our assets

• renewable energy projects for the domestic secto

The construction of small-scale distributed and autonomous RES generation at the facilities of the KMG group of companies will make it possible to apply RES technologies in the public utility sector;

• RES projects built into the technological cycle

The construction of small-scale distributed and autonomous generation of renewable energy at the facilities of the KMG group of companies will allow the use of renewable energy technologies in production processes (oil preheating during production/transportation, lighting, hot water supply, and others).

• purchase of «green» electricity

KMG can become a consumer of «green» RES energy by signing an off-take contract with large potential investors. This approach will allow without attracting serious investments in capital construction, to partially replace traditional electricity consumption with renewable energy sources, thereby reducing the carbon footprint.
